Kyle WilliamsKyle Williams of Willow2x fame has been upto his tricks recently. He is not three bad with one of those there yo yo things and has entered a competition on Vimeo with a compilation video showing off some of his rather excellent yo-yomanship along with a move that he has not seen before anywhere in his learning and experience.

Pretty rad huh? You just upped his viewcount by one too which helps him in the competition, go paste the link somewhere! No really… go on.

Kyle is from the Wirral (somewhere in the UK badlands) and has quite clearly been practicing with his yoyo for a while. He is a solid member of domorepoi and it is believed that he is pretty darn good with a set of chains too. He attends fire meets regularly in his native Wirral and enjoys lighting up at various outdoor parties during the summer months. He is an affable guy who is well liked by everyone from domorepoi that has met him in the biological world.

Not much else is known about him other than he is a ‘proper random’ as you may or may not be able to tell from his profile pic and that he is deserving of the win.

We salute you Kyle, here’s to being random! :)

Onwards

Been a bit of a hard year this one…

Life exploded all over the place about 6 months ago when it was already pretty screwed up to begin with and I have been mad busy ever since trying to piece the thing back together whilst working full time and (at some points) sleeping. I think I did it, to a certain extent anyway and I can now start to put some work into my personal stuff such as this website as I have two thirds of my average day back.

So, I spent the last few days tinkering with this place and gluing it all together properly. The headers for the blog, pages and forum all now match up correctly as does the main menu and everything links to an appropriate place, I even put some dark background smileys and icons on the message board. I am back on the same continent as my long lost hard drive too so with a little luck we might just be able to get Coleys data planets to align and light up Google like the proverbial Christmas Tree.

Wouldn’t that be nice? :)

I’m gonna start filming lesson stuff again soon I think, I still have a couple of weeks worth of tidying left yet but once I’m settled then there is no reason why not. There is always new stuff to explore in any walk of life and Poi is certainly no different as we all know. So yah, dunno what I’m gonna film yet but it will be useful to somebody somewhere out there eh? Don’t you just love the internet? I honestly think it ranks right up there with the wheel and fire.

I think that’s it. Suffice it to say that I am not dead yet, I am halfway through the toughest job I ever had to do in my life but the hardest part is now complete, I am at the moment taking a brief respite and I could do with your best wishes and good vibrations for the second leg of the journey.

What I’ve learned in the last 9 months – Never give in, never say die and keep fighting for what you want.. one love.

Here we go again lol

Mkay, so I put a new board up :

Needs better smilies (ones for dark backgrounds) and stuff but I will fix that up over the coming week or so. Life is starting to calm down for me again now so I can put a little more work in around here. It feels nice to start again, this just feels.. right. I was pretty stuck all last year with what to do with the place, just kinda buried me head in the sand and waited to see what happened. The lessons are still being used tho, the search engine ranking is really quite strong and people are still interested in blabbing lol. Ditching the thing completely is not an option, wouldn’t be fair to the people using the lessons, the work I have done previously or the do more poi faithful, you know who you are, thank you for bearing with me.

So yah, off we go, I won’t be checking in too much, if I do it will be under one of a few pseudonyms most of the time, I didn’t like the responsibility of being admin before, it constricted my free speech and it became a real chore. I certainly won’t be refereeing in any arguments between members etc even if asked to intervene, I’m not censoring ANYTHING.

No mods, no rules, just low maintenance facilitation of open discussion about poi, fire, spam, meh and whatever. If you have a suggestion for a section please make it known on the board.

dum dee dum..

Mkay so the boards db is in a worse state than I thought and its on a hard drive which is actually 4500 miles away from me right now. There are some posts which cannot be retrieved and any post which had an attachment is now missing the attachment. The biggest pain in the butt is that the thing is 4500 miles away and I’m not exactly sure when I will be able to get my hands on it again. Would be within a matter of months but meh, is everyone willing to wait that long?

The alternative is to just start start again, I don’t personally care as I think the place was getting stale anyway apart from the quality spammage. I kinda like the idea actually, please, if you have an opinion on this, do tell me what ya fink in the comments.

What else?

DAMN!! These wordpress installations get a LOT of spam!! I’ve logged in to do a little work here and there the last month or so but spent 45 mins each time deleting spam. I’m sure there are a few code tweaks here and there or a plug in that would make the job easier but as of yet I’m still learning. More posts and general bleh soon, I’m gonna make it so others can register and possibly post too I fink.

Yes, quite.. it’s pretty much a clone of Do More Poi but it is totally a private access thing. It needed to be private because for one, it’s a good bauble to sell a Poi course with (online learning resources – practice at home) but also because as well as the weekly evening session I ran for over 16′s I was teaching in schools etc. You can’t have kiddy winks heading to Do More Poi for their learning, people swear and talk about drugs and stuff here so that was out of the question.

The other main thing about this resource is the domain name. If you know anything about the net you will know that the domain name a website operates under is about it’s most powerful asset it has with regards to being found by search engines and therefore people. If someone somewhere wants a pink lawn mower, they usually type those exact words into Google. If you own pinklawnmower.com then 9 times outta 10 you are coming first, without even trying.

The idea with this one at first was simply to get some easy hits from people looking for Poi lessons  in my home city of Manchester, England. Then I kinda realised that via subdomains the same could be done for anyone. A subdomain is like a website within a website, it is seen as a separate entity by search engines and performs just like any other website with regards to SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). So if you were based in New York and taught Poi then it would make a LOT of sense to advertise your services via the subdomain : newyork.poilessons.com and the same as with anywhere else in the world.
